Artist Statement

My desire is always to create unique pieces that provide pleasure and serenity. I enjoy using color and texture to entice the emotions.  Bright happy colors and majestic earth tones motivate me.  I seek to provide visual appeal and a sense of beauty.  Most recently I have focused on surface embellishments, fabric painting, dying, and alteration.

I began seriously pursuing fiber art in 1991, as a quilter.  The precise nature of quilting gave me a good technical background, allowing me to produce fiber art of good quality.  With that as background experience, I began creating my own designs using non-tradition fabrics such as my own marbled, hand-dyed, and hand painted fabrics, along with imported batiks and interesting fabrics such as satins and lamé.  I use many different surface design techniques such as fusing, hand beading, dyeing, painting, and stamping for texture and intensity.  I am intrigued with embellishments and frequently use free motion embroidered techniques to create the desired visions.

As an instructor I want to share my knowledge and have fun with those around me.
